Family slam drug death sentence

McCullough even videoed Mr Kennedy snoring in a chair after taking the drug on January 29. He later realised he had stopped breathing. McCullough and Bewley both pleaded guilty to supplying methodone. McCullough also admitted a similar offence involving supply to another person, and one charge of possessing traces of heroin. Both could be released in less than a year after serving time on remand. Gary Kennedy senior said he and his family are distraught at the life sentences, and asked: "Is life so worthless?" He added: "As you can imagine, the sentence which Bewley and McCullogh received has left our family devastated. "Is life so worthless? Can the government justify handing out lethal drugs on our streets? I am just a lay-person, but even I know that most of the drug users on methadone don’t actually use this drug themselves but sell it on, which means that the next person to buy this drug runs a high risk of death – it is that lethal." The court heard yesterday that during police interview, McCullough said Mr Kennedy had popped round for a drink the previous evening.
