People who snore frequently are 68 percent more likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis, a new South Korean study has suggested. The study involved 4,270 men and women who were followed for four years between 2001 and 2006. Researchers at Korea University Ansan Hospital revealed that of the 4,270 participants, 314 developed chronic bronchitis during the study period. Taking into consideration other risk factors for bronchitis like smoking, the researchers concluded that people who snored frequently for five nights a week were 25 percent more likely to develop the condition than people ho did not snore. Participants who snored for six or seven nights a week had a 68 percent greater risk of developing chronic bronchitis as opposed to their non-snoring counterparts. "We collected information on snoring at baseline and identified incident cases of chronic bronchitis during a four-year follow-up period," the researchers led by Inkyung Baik wrote.
