Frequent snoring may be caused by bronchitis, study finds

A new South Korean study finds frequent snoring can be linked to bronchitis.

The study found people who snored six to seven nights a week were 68 per cent more likely to develop chronic bronchitis.

People who snored five times a week or less were 25 per cent more likely than non- snorers.

No reasons for the link between bronchitis and snoring have been found, but researchers have come up with two possiblities. One, is that the vibrations caused by snoring leads to inflammation in the airways and the other, is that the inflammation comes first, causing the snoring and possibly aleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a condition where the person stops breathing periodically for 10 to 20 seconds.

The study can be found in the archives of Internal Medicine.
